The idea of creating a Blog was inspired by a friend who lives in Cyprus http://cypruslife.blogspot.com/. I had never heard of it before, but I have found it fascinating reading about her daily life in a different culture, through this medium. As my circumstances are similar I thought I would give it a try, so this blog is a background summary, and explains a little about why we live in Brazil.
My husband works for a Christian charity, based in the UK, which has two main mission aims; firstly, to 'Touch a Billion' lives with the good news of Jesus Christ, through the medium of broadcasting, and to 'Impact a Nation' through placing people and other resources into a needy nation. This is is obviously very condensed, but you can read more by visiting www.christianvision.com to see a synopsis of their full vision, and details of sites around the world, but you won't see anything about Brazil yet, because this is still 'work in progress'.
In early 2004 we were asked to come to Brazil to assist a project to launch a Christian television network in Brazil. I say "we", as it necessitated us moving from Birmingham, England to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Up to this time, I had not been directly involved in Christian Vision, apart from supporting and praying, but I have always considered myself part of the work, and have been involved for over 14 years now. We have seen it grow from a team of three to what must be over a hundred people now, in different parts of the world.
Over that time, our children have grown up and I have been teaching; first in Primary Education, and for the last few years in Adult Education. Now I am teaching English to many of the staff, here in Rio, and am also learning Portuguese. We have been travelling back and forth to the UK for nearly 18 months and expect to be here for another six months.
It has been an exciting life-changing experience in so many ways. I started to write a weekly e.mail home from the very first week, as a sort of weekly log of our activities, so when I have worked out what to do, I will post them in the archives for this Blog.
